i’m m.m. i come from france. i’m studying horticulture in a engineer school in france. the reason why i decided to go to canada is to do a work placement. as part as my formation i have to do each summer work placement in foreign countries or in france. so for my practice during the summer 2008 i chose to go to vancouver in order to discover a place i didn’t knew and to speak english. therefore, i worked 3 months (may 2008-august 2008) in a nursery in langley. i was looking for a homestay family in the area of langley. so, i found the family. after many emails, they decided to accept me coming in their home. it’s not always easy to meet people for the first time after a ten hours flight and especially when they don’t speak your language. but for sure something i will l never forget, it’s the way they introduce me in their home and in their family’s life. after, maybe just 3 days, i felt like a part of the family. i couldn’t even realize that i met them for the first time 3 days ago. as soon i arrived, they proposed me to take part actively in their family’s life. i mean that i was very often inviting to go with them to the church, the pool, to have a picnic, a walk, etc…it was always very pleasant moments, we were speaking about our life before my came in vancouver. i liked so much telling them about how is the life in europe, the main differences with canada. moreover, they were explaining how that works in canada too. i could have serious discussions with dean and sherri and a lot of fun with the kids. the most important point for me, when i looked for a homestay, was to share great moments with other people and to have fun together. i think, it’s exactly what we did during my stay in canada. slowly i started to feel me like really part of their family. i was bringing down my laptop to live with them in the evening, we had very long discussions while preparing lunches for the day after, i was playing outside in the garden with them, sharing my pictures of the weekend on sunday night. in fact, we spent the week together, but in the weekend, i decided to explore the beautiful british columbia with my friends, who were also here for their practice. so on sunday night we had a lot of things to tell us each other, a nice moment we shared weekly in the sofa of the living room. they were always surprised that i did so many things…but if i did so much it thanks their help. i mean, that dean and sherry were always trying to help me planning my trips and making them the most successful as possible! that works, i spent very nice weekend in the area of vancouver, especially the ones i spent with them! if i had to answer the question: “what was the worst thing and the best you did during you stay?” (sherry asked very often this question, so prepare yourself ☺) i would answer; the best thing is difficult to say because there were so many! anyway i’m sure that the worst thing was to leave canada and to leave them. to conclude i would say that if you are looking for an actively family living in a very nice home, with good canadian cooking made by sherri and trying helping you as much as they can, the family is the homestay you would like to have! leave your scare home and come to canada with happiness and desire into discovering the amazing british colombia! enjoy your stay !
