I miss my family at hanoi homestay. i was very lucky to find hanoi homestay where i lived for 5 months. lam and thuy have a genuine intrigue about their guests and provide a wonderful space for both private accommodation and a warm, loving family atmosphere - literally at the bottom of the stairs! i miss the children who gave me a cheerful welcome when i came home every night and sister bang cooked me many wonderful meals and became a good friend. thuy and lam went beyond what i expected of them in so many ways; lam often helped me with my computer and thuy's friendship and confidance meant a lot to me while i was far away from my home country. when my boyfriend came for a brief visit, i looked no further than thuy and lam to arrange my tour and with fabulous results! in ha long bay we received special treatment that will long be remembered. cruising on the back of motorbikes with lam and thuy around the mai chau village was another highlight and i often recall the tranquility of the picturesque surrounds. i will definitely seek to stay at hanoi homestay next time i'm in vietnam - until then, i will miss the 'family' i became part of in hanoi."

June 27th 2009!
lam and his family will not deceive you, that is sure! back in 1997 we headed to vietnam for a 2 month study trip. we had contacted a professor who talked to his students about two belgians needing a place to stay. lam picked us up at the airport with a friend and there we were, off at the back of the motorcycles. we arrived in the middle of a big family feast, as one of the children turned 1 year old. we were just integrated in the whole event, even helping to cook some specialties. there was no guest room yet and it seemed normal to lam to give us his own bedroom. he took the time to show us around, explain things and customs, simply because he is someone who is eager to connect to people across diversity.
we have always stayed in touch since then and even traveled together in europe when he got a scholarship to come to italy to better his italian. lam is a person you enjoy very much being with. so for sure, being hosted by lam will contribute to an unforgettable stay!

What a wonderful family! i recently stayed with chi thuy, anh lam, their two precious daughters (tho and bong), and co bang for a month while i was in hanoi for some work. let me tell you, you will not find a better homestay experience in hanoi than you will here. chi thuy went above and beyond what was required, often arranging trips and making calls to ensure that i would get from place to place. even after i did not require their hospitality anymore, chi thuy still helped me find places to stay in other parts of vietnam. anh lam also became a friend, offering me drinks and conversations at the dinner table whenever he was home. he also let me use his motorbike quite generously, even when i did not even know how to operate it in the beginning! and when i visited sapa, he kindly offered any services i needed since he was there working at the same time. you also cannot forget co bang, who made and prepared the most delicious, real home-cooking lunches and dinners while i was staying there. and, of course, their two daughters, who always brought alot of joy and energy to the room, especially the kitchen!
i will not soon forget my stay with these wonderful people. they truly made me feel welcome. i definitely recommend hanoi homestay to anyone who wishes to immerse themselves in the real hanoi, and will recommend it to any friend who wishes to visit hanoi. i already miss them.

I lived 4 months in this "homestay" and i really really dont recommend it. of course thuy and lam look nice and helpful when first you met her. but when the laptop of lam disappeared he didnt hesitate to accuse their guests to steal it and call the police late in the evening to check to room of the guests and ask them questions. thuy even took my phone to check my missing calls. i felt terrible at this time. but the worst is that thuy called my boss, for who i worked in hanoi to ask him if i didnt carry a new laptop at the office in the morning. how can they do that to their guests!! what a shame!! i argued with thuy, she didnt control herself, she shout at me, freaked out, force me to sign the bills, and ask me to leave the house. thuy cried for her husband's laptop. i cried because she ruined my stay in vietnam. let me tell you something guys, their smile, their kindness are fake. please choose another option for your stay in hanoi.
