| Welcome to Canada! If you are visiting Canada to go to school or work, we may be just the homestay family for YOU! We are family of four living in Langley, BC, Canada in a beautiful home in a safe, accessible neighborhood. We have hosted many short term international students in the past and have been a LONG term homestay family for three years. Our home is over 3000 square feet (340 square meters). Your furnished bright private room is about 10 X 12 feet. It has a closet, a large bed (with drawers underneath), desk, lamp and night table with clock radio. Please check out our other posts to see the photos of your room and the bathroom. Internet connection for your lap top is also available. There is a phone for you to share with our family in your room. (Most home stay students have a cellular phone, but it's not always necessary.) We are a busy family and will usually invite you to come on our trips and errands, but we understand that after a while in Canada, you will have your own friends and things to do also, so usually we don't expect you to come with us ALL the time. On weekends, we usually get together with our extended families for dinner and a visit. Our kids are involved in various activities, such as 4H club link Band link Hockey link and our Churches weekly youth group Aldergrove Alliance Youth Group Dean enjoys computer games, and hockey, Sherri likes to read and to cook and volunteering at the school. Dean works Monday to Friday and Sherri works only two days each week. We have a gentle friendly dog (beagle) and a cat. Your large bathroom is shared with our two children. There are three bathrooms in the house, so conflict is easily avoided with a little planning and consideration. You may shower or bath in the evening OR the morning, whatever is your custom, we can be flexible. Towels are included of course! Laundry facilities are available and we can show you how to use them! You may change your bed linen weekly, we can show you where the bedding is kept. Packed lunches are provided for you on school/work days and usually consist of sandwiches, yogurt or pudding, fruit or vegetable, cookie, juice. If you like, you may have the remains of previous dinners, we often enjoy these 'leftovers'! Meal time is a valued time in our home, we always strive to be together at dinner and usually succeed! We expect that when you are home, you will eat your meals with us and share some time talkng about our days activities. Getting the family together to eat a meal is a great way to de-brief after a busy day and catch up on recent activities. Family meals not only offer time for talk and laughter, they provide a setting for so much more! If you will not be home, that's OK, but please give us notice so that we may plan accordingly! Typically, we are home 5 nights per week and available to help you with most homework when you need it, though we aren't too up-to-date on higher math and physics! We can help to arrange private tutors for your English (they cost about $25/hour) if you wish.
